Book Event Programme
Lucy Worsley on Agatha Christie, leads a crime wave this year in Richmond (literaturely not literally) being followed by Martin Edwards and the history of crime fiction; ‘Golden Age Detective Fiction’ with Tom Mead; Felix Francis on ‘Growing up with Dick Francis and writing his novels’; and Mark Bridgeman’s ‘Trial by Jury’.
Other highlights include: Tom and Paddy Crewe talking about ‘Fiction and Families’; Sally Coulthard and ‘A Brief History of the Countryside’; Nicholas Royle and his quirky journey around second-hand book shops; Jo Willett on Sarah Siddons talking in the Georgian Theatre Royal about a Georgian actress who almost certainly performed at the Theatre in the 18th century; Matt Tiller with an incredible story about Jack Leslie, the first black player to be picked for England in 1925 but was then dropped because of the colour of his skin; Dominic Kelly’s powerful storytelling of MARA; and Toby Wilkinson on ‘Ramesses the Great’.
We also have events for children; writing workshops; poetry and sketch pad walks; a book fair and bookbinding workshops; ‘Foodie Fantasy’ at Aske at Mocha; afternoon tea and ‘Highway Cello’ at Reeth; local journalists Joe Willis and Peter Barron; and Jane Austin and the Militia.
